Growing up in the north Dublin village of Balrothery, Almost Ghosts had little more than a tennis court for entertainment. It didn’t take them very long to realise they weren’t very good at tennis, or comprehending the bizarre point tallying system, so instead, they turned their focus to music.
After a stint under the name Sun Gun the band grew dissatisfied with their songs and sound. In 2011 they decided to scrap everything and start again. This drastic approach cleared the way for two isolated years of uninterrupted writing, recording and rehearsing. What they emerged with was a three track debut EP of focused, atmospheric-alternative rock. There were also enough new tracks to fill a further three EPs if necessary.
Then as if to tempt fate, Almost Ghosts released their debut EP for free on Friday the 13th of September. The EP was well received and was swiftly followed with live performances in Whelans, The Grand Social, Dundalk’s Spirit Store and Sweeneys.
"their brooding dark rock début cleverly marries itself to the pop hooks of White Lies and math rock of Foals" - GoldenPlec (IRL)
"Their uplifting, high energy rock is reminiscent of early U2" - Flight of the Squawkatiel (USA)
